Shin Arata (新多シン) is the co-protagonist in Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z. He first appears in Episode 01. He is voiced by Minami Tsuda.

Personal[]

Appearance[]

Personality[]

Shin is known for his desire to solve every single mystery in existence, and as such, goes about every odd factoid or folktale with a large amount of gusto. This results in him being almost obsessed with the supernatural, which tends to annoy his friends and family, especially his sister Ayu. Despite this, though, his parents heavily support him in his endeavor, and while others are often distracted by his obsession, he never lets it overpower his moral conscience, often earning him their respect.

Shin is often heard with the catchphrase "the possibilities are never zero" (可能性はゼロじゃない), a line originating from a conversation between him and his father when he was little, which tends to describe him at his peak; even if a challenge seems impossible, he refuses to back out and hangs onto the slim chance that it is indeed possible. This level of determination means that should somebody fall on the wrong side of a conflict, he won't stop until he makes them realize the error of their ways. He often succeeds in these endeavors despite the odds.

While Abuto had a few gripes with Shin to begin with and had a tendency to toy with him, the duo became close friends throughout their shared encounters in the Teoti conflict, and both are willing to do whatever it takes to help those who need it. Shin also has had a great deal of influence on his friends and colleagues, namely making them more open about their dreams and interests.

Unlike Abuto, or the E5's original driver, Shin had no knowledge about railways prior to becoming a Shinkalion driver. However, he began learning more and more about them as time went on during his experience with the SUEI, to the point that he was able to understand one of Hayato's railway metaphors, which surprised even the former E5 driver himself.

Trivia[]

Background[]

Resemblances[]

Etymology[]

  • Shin's surname is a play on "arata" (新た), the Japanese word for "new", though the kanji writing likely originates from Niida Station (新多駅), a currently disused freight station on JNR Chikuhō Main Line.
  • The name "Shin" is also one of the alternative pronunciations of the kanji 新, and therefore could possibly share the same meaning with his surname.
