Shinkalion E5 Hayabusa (シンカリオン E5 はやぶさ) is the flagship Shinkalion of the Shinkansen Ultra Evolution Institute, piloted by director Hokuto Hayasugi's son, Hayato.

Description

During the first of the Giant Monstrous Being outbreaks, the E5 remained in storage as none of The Adult Drivers were compatible. Fortunately, when Hayato snuck into Ōmiya Branch to return a dropped Shinca Card, he accidentally got scanned by Shashot and was found compatible. Since then, much of the Shinkalions were piloted by children until a way for adults to pilot them was found. During the final battle against Kairen, the E5 was left in the Underground World as Hayato was granted a new unit to drive. Although it was retrieved months later, it did not see anymore action outside of simulation purposes as part of the institute's contract with Genbu, who then temporarily took the wheel during the battle against the Valhallan. Following that, the E5 was transferred to the newly-established Yokokawa Branch by Tokonami Usui to be refitted into the Shinkalion Z E5 Hayabusa.

Weapons and abilities

The E5 has access to the Turnstile Sword, which can trap enemies in an energy cage similar to a station gate from a modern era train station. The E5 is also an agile runner, with claws for traction and thrusters in the ankles (and later wings) for high jumps. Unlike the other, later Shinkalions, the E5 requires the pilot to be in interlock with Shashot, or would otherwise stand inactive in battle. The E5 is also notable for its unique special attack: the Gran Cross, a powerful beam of energy fired from the cannon in its chest, normally concealed by its nose coupling cover.

Appearance

Shinkansen Mode

The exterior design of the E5 is broadly based on the experimental Fastech 360S train, with a color scheme of "Tokiwa" (常盤) green for the upper body and "Hiun" (飛雲) white for the lower body, separated by a "Hayate" pink stripe.

Shinkalion Mode

The E5, when transformed, becomes a humanoid mech, which still keeps its chest the same as the nose of its shinkansen mode. Much of its colors are green and white, with grey mechanical components and pink stripes on certain parts of the body. The E5 has golden claws on its feet, and orange bolts can be seen sporadically on its legs.

A pair of telescoping wings are attached to the back of its shoulders, featuring a coloring evocative of its Shinkansen form with green at the armatures topped with grey and red pantograph-like details, and white with a pink stripe down the middle at the main wing structure; a major portion of the latter would extend and glow in pink once activated.

Trivia

• Unlike the Anime version, the E5 from the 2015 web series was capable of unassisted flight, the wings behind its shoulders generating energy while directing it behind. As seen in the anime, the E5 is unable to fly on its own, crashing as soon as the 800 lost its grip.
• In the Anime, the E5 debuted without the wings behind its shoulders, and remained this way for the first few episodes until they were first acquired by Shinkalion E5 + E6 in the form of two additional blades for the Super Turnstile Sword in Episode 09. As the E5 wasn't deployed in the following episode, the wings were added onto the E5 itself two episodes later and remained a part of the E5's design for the rest of its appearances in the series.
• The E5 is the only Shinkalion to have made an animated appearance in a non-Shinkalion anime production, appearing alongside Hayato in the movie of the Drive Head series, which precedes Shinkalion THE ANIMATION's time slot on the same broadcast network.
